The Holzbaupreis Tirol 2023 has been decided: 161 submissions, 6 awards, recognition for MEISSL ARCHITECTS!
Never before in the history of the "Tiroler Holzbaupreis", organized by proHolz Tirol and awarded every four years since 2001, have so many entries entered the race as in 2023. The high number of participants illustrates the importance of timber construction in Tyrol. The awards were presented in the categories "Residential Construction", "Public Buildings", "Commercial Buildings", "Continuing Construction" and "Export".
Our project Malis Garten (5*S Green Spa-Hotel) was designed as a pure timber construction, where the consistent use of local woods was the top priority. It is the first hotel in Austria, which was built with five floors, above ground 100% of wood. This pioneering achievement is also expressed by a recognition at the Tyrolean Timber Construction Award in the category "Commercial Buildings".
The advantages of wood as a building material are obvious: Wood is a regional, renewable, ecological building material. Building with wood reduces the CO2 footprint of buildings by more than half. Timber construction is recyclable and part of our building culture, a building culture that will definitely tolerate even more wood in the future.
"The hotel building relies entirely on solid wood and carries the visible wooden structure right up to the exterior of the balconies. Much wood is also left visible in the interior. The room sequences are interesting, implemented in good cooperation between timber constructors and planners (...)", according to the jury's statement.
"MalisGarten is the result of a soulful hostess, an innovative wood fan and industrialist as well as a well-functioning team of planners and building craftsmen. It was great fun to plan such a project and we are proud that we were allowed to participate in this gem for the Zillertal," says Arch. Alexander Meissl.
We would like to express our gratitude for the good cooperation with the clients, planners and the contractors.
