Construction industry "quo vadis

Summer 2020:

The order situation in the construction industry is still good and at the beginning of 2020 there was traditionally a look into the crystal ball. If we were to repeat this look today, the picture would be completely different.

At the moment after the lockdown, the industry is still living off the projects that were started or acquired in the previous year, and of course the commissioning of new construction projects has come to a standstill due to the past weeks. Nevertheless, I remain positive. We expect a good workload for the current year and now it is time to set the course for the future. More public-sector construction projects have been announced and ecologically valuable renovation measures are also to be promoted. In any case, the outlook is less gloomy than in other sectors.

Summer 2021:

The order situation in the construction industry is still good and at the beginning of 2021 there was traditionally a look into the crystal ball. And now suddenly everything is different than it was a year ago.

At the moment, the construction industry is totally overheated. In addition to raw material and supply bottlenecks, galloping price developments make it difficult to look to the future. Whereas a year ago the biggest concern was that there would be a slump, now we are preoccupied with the consequences of short-time work and a deliberate shortage of resources. In particular, we are familiar with the artificial scarcity of resources from the 2008 crisis, and as a result there was a noticeable slump 3 years later and prices fell significantly.
