PRIVATE CLINIC DÖBLING

Vienna, Austria

The extension to the Privatklink Döbling is connected to the existing building on all floors and comprises four floors above ground and one below ground. The building extends along Heiligenstädter Straße in a closed construction and is extended in the northern area. In order to ensure the lighting for the extension, at the side facing away from the street, atria are cut into the structure at certain points.

Since the maximum cubature is not exhausted, the present concept still offers potential for expansion.

The annex is designed as a solid structure, but the load-bearing system is open. Thus, in addition to the stiffening staircase cores, only the exterior walls and a longitudinal axis act as load-bearing elements. For the facade design, the axis system of the existing building was deliberately adopted and projected onto the new building. However, the staggering of the facade was reinterpreted in the course of this.

The new building visually floats above the massive base clad with dark facade panels. Fine lines, rounded corners and glass blocks are reminiscent of the Bauhaus era. The round windows set an accent and underline the clarity of the geometries.
